Coffee and cardamom
What coffee does Cofá sell?
Cofá sells both Arabica coffee (boiled coffee) and Swedish filter coffee.
What is boiled coffee (Arabica coffee)?
Boiled coffee is a traditional brewing method that gives a rich and intense flavour. It is usually made with ground coffee, water and optionally sugar – without a filter – in a small coffee pot, often called a “Raqwa”.
How does boiled coffee differ from regular Swedish coffee?
Boiled coffee has a richer and deeper flavour and a different, filterless brewing method. It offers a cultural and sensory experience beyond traditional Swedish coffee culture.
How does Cofá use cardamom in its coffee?
Cofá adds cardamom to its coffee to create a balance between the intensity of the coffee and the mild spiciness of cardamom. The result is an aromatic and flavourful coffee experience.
Why is cardamom good to have in coffee?
Cardamom gives a unique flavour and aroma that complements the bitterness of the coffee and makes the drink more versatile and aromatic. It is especially popular in Arabic and Turkish coffee culture.
What are the health benefits of cardamom?
- Improves digestion and relieves bloating.
- Strengthens the immune system through its antioxidants.
- Fights bacteria and fungi.
- Relieves colds and coughs and improves breathing.
- Freshens the breath.
- Promotes blood circulation.
What is filter coffee?
Filter coffee is one of the most common brewing methods in Sweden. It is made by letting hot water slowly run through a filter filled with ground coffee. The result is a clear and balanced coffee flavour that suits both everyday moments and “fika”.
What is the difference between Arabica coffee and filter coffee?
Arabica is a type of coffee bean, while filter coffee is a method of brewing coffee. So you can make filter coffee with Arabica beans. The difference is that Arabica describes the coffee's origin and flavour profile (mild, tangy, aromatic), while filter coffee is about how the coffee is prepared.
Freeze-dried fruits
What is freeze-dried fruit?
Freeze-dried fruit is fruit that has undergone a process where the water is removed through freezing and vacuum drying, which preserves flavour, nutrients and texture.
How is freeze-dried fruit made?
- Selection of ripe fruit.
- Careful washing and slicing.
- Quick freezing to about -50 °C.
- Vacuum drying where the water sublimates (goes directly from ice to vapour).
- Finally, packaging in airtight packaging.
What are the nutritional benefits of freeze-dried fruit?
Freeze-dried fruit retains vitamins, minerals and fibre better than traditional drying, including important nutrients such as vitamin C and antioxidants.
How are flavour and texture affected by freeze-drying?
Freeze-dried fruit retains much of its original flavour and aroma, and has a texture similar to fresh fruit, which makes it pleasant to eat.
How long can freeze-dried fruit be stored?
Thanks to almost all the water being removed, freeze-dried fruit can be stored for a long time without preservatives, provided it is kept in airtight packaging.
How should freeze-dried fruit be stored to preserve quality?
The packaging should always be properly resealed after use to protect against moisture and air, ensuring long shelf life and flavour.
Why is freeze-dried fruit easy to use and transport?
It is light in weight and requires no refrigeration, which makes it ideal for travel, outings and as an ingredient in snacks and drinks.
What environmental benefits does freeze-drying have?
Although the process is energy-intensive, it reduces waste and water consumption compared with some other drying methods, making it relatively environmentally friendly.
What types of products is freeze-dried fruit used in?
Freeze-dried fruit is used in snacks, baked goods, drinks, dietary supplements, natural juices, premium chocolate and pastry products, and in cooking such as salads and rice dishes.
